The first Icon I painted was a copy of a Madonna and Child from Crete. I was inspired by the manner of working from a prototype of those depicted, as helper and portal. They are surrounded by a golden celestial sky, with the light coming from all directions. The Icons and Onion Domes from my visit to Russia in 1991 made a lasting impression that stayed with me and constantly inspires and fuels my Iconographic work. Even though one is copying a particular Icon when painting, inevitably each painting is unique and displays subtle changes, qualities and energies.
